Visceral Response

I chose this picture for this assignment because growing up basketball was everything to me. There is just something to the game that's unlike any other. This image resonates with me because it reminds me of the times growing up where we played two on two tournaments all day long, and sometimes even into the night where we couldn't see at all. Everyone would come. Some people came to play, and some just came to hang out and watch. If your team lost you had just as much watching, or hanging out with everyone. To me this image is beautiful because it strikes up a bit of nostalgia. Now any sunset is beautiful, but the silhouette of the hoop tells a story. It shows passion, ambition, love, and fun. Knowing that the day is ending never will mean the game will stop.

Looking at this image analytically there is contrast between the lights and darks. The color jumps out at you with the red sunset and it is offset with the silhouette of the hoop. The line of the image is you can follow the hoop to the sunset so your eyes do a circle which sets a pattern in the image with the physical use of shapes: the sun and the hoop both being circular.  There is texture with the clouds and the net and even the trees at the bottom. I think the use of space is great in this because there isn't too much going on. This is a great example of less is more.
